BYSTANDER AWARENESS

Bystander Information and Resources

A Bystander is a person who observes some type of conflict or unhealthy behavior happening to somebody else.

An Active Bystander is a person who, when seeing this happen to somebody else takes steps to make a difference.

The Bystander Effect is when a bystander does nothing to make a difference because the presence of other bystanders leads them to believe that somebody else will do something - or that they believe that the fact that nobody is intervening means that they shouldn't either.

Bystander Intervention is when somebody observes conflict and becomes an Active Bystander to make a positive difference in the situation.

Bystander Awareness is when somebody takes the time to become aware that if they are witnessing a conflict or unhealthy behavior that they can take steps to make a positive difference in that situation.
